RE: I'm weaning myself from coffee......

Well, what I drink doesn't exactly fall into the "real" coffee catagory, but I can drink a can (yes, an entire 8 oz can) a day of the Suisse Mocha coffee drink. Hopefully I won't have to give up the caffeine (or the sugar)otherwise I'll be the most depressed person on earth!

RE: Update News from IKE's missing??

Over a 140 bodies were seen via a CG chopper over at Bolivar, but you won't hear about it, its being kept quiet. The National Guard was in our area for maybe a day and there are still folks missing..... From all indications many of them may never be found.

RE: A Rat. . .A Rat...YUCK!!!!!

They are disgusting aren't they?? We have (maybe I should say "had") the wharf rats at the park we were staying in. Luckily they only came out at night and always stayed close to the pier. They creep me out, yuck!

RE: FEMA

As sad as it might be, its very hard to feel sorry for the people that wanted to stay and died in the storm. You live on an island or limited access beach area, there is a huge hurricane coming in, what part of LEAVE don't you understand. The mayor of Galveston was trying to get people to leave the island after the storm because there is no services, etc. The people said they would be fine as long as FEMA gave them ice, water and MRE's everyday. NO NO NO. Get off the island. I just don't get it. If you recall, the mayor of Galveston was advising folks to shelter in place, then sometime Thursday suddenly demanded everyone evacuate. At this point they were out of time with the surge rising. I've heard it took people 8 hours to reach 610 from Galveston.

RE: 6 feet of water in the Mobile Suite

I am overwhelmed at the outpouring of support, I am thankful for each and every one of you! Gary, great to hear from you! Tell J I said hello. Tim, yes we still have the OR. It actually survived the storm although the wind did push it off the blocks about 2 feet.

RE: 6 feet of water in the Mobile Suite

I appreciate the opinions, I feel the same way most of you do - its a complete loss. As to the question of why we didn't move further inland... My (stubborn) elderly parents refused to leave. My (stubborn) husband knew what he was facing in terms of our business. We made every attempt to move both 5vers (we also have an Alfa) to the highest point on the property. With roughly 2 acres of equipment, tools, etc., we ran out of time. Obviously, our employees were attempting to secure their property and we were short handed. The storm itself was easy, I slept thru it. The storm surge was another story. I'm sure many don't understand that the decision to stay or leave is much more complicated than it sounds. We are very fortunate and I'm thankful my family is safe - that is what truly matters. Please pray for all those affected by Ike. Many folks were not a lucky as we were. Thanks again for the well wishes and kind words!!

6 feet of water in the Mobile Suite

Ike brought an amazing amount of tidal surge to Galveston as many of you are aware. Can the MS be salvaged? My reason for asking is simple: this was our home since selling the stick house back in May. I'm ready to call it a loss and purchase a new one - hubby is hoping against hope we can salvage it. What do you think??

RE: I just spoke with Lon Frank......lost almost everything

I thought about Lon through all this and was concerned about his situation. Its good to know that he and his family are safe. We have significant damage as well. Our shop and yard had 6+ feet of water rushing thru it, the fleet of trucks and heavy equipment may not be salvaged. We had both our Alfa and the Mobile Suite (which we called home) parked at the shop and they are probably totaled. I was able to save the kids baby books, all the other furnishings from our house are gone. Although we are without "things" we are thankful that we as a family were spared; some were not so lucky. They are still attempting to recover people (I'm not talking about rescue - its beyond that point) in the San Leon/Bacliff area. Homes along Dickinson Bayou are no longer there, restaurants literally floated off into Galveston Bay. The only way I can describe the scene is total destruction in/around Galveston. It was reassuring to see neighbors helping neighbors - people coming together for the common good. Please keep everyone in prayer, right now its all some folks have to get them thru. God bless!!

Very considerate, caring folks around here. Thank you! Wish I could take you up on it, but we're staying. Keep us in your prayers.

RE: Hurricane IKE

Looks as if we're going to take a direct hit. They are predicting storm surge of up 18-20'. We are hunkered down, waiting, waiting, waiting.

RE: Hurricane IKE

It is not looking good for us that's for sure. The weather forecasters have been comparing Ike to Carla (cat 4 in 1961) which hit Port Lavaca with damage extending as far as Dallas. Keep us in your prayers!!

RE: Lake Texana SP

Where is Lake Texana? I know of Lake Texoma in Texas/Oklahoma. Is that it? No, Lake Texana is in Edna down toward Victoria Texas. We've driven thru the park and it looks really nice. We typically stay at Breckenridge across the street. Enjoy!!

RE: Don't want too - but I might HAVE too........

Based on the current track, you may not have to worry about leaving.

RE: Don't want too - but I might HAVE too........

It's never an easy decision to make. My only suggestion would be head somewhere other than north. I've never understood why everyone wants to go north :h (I'm sure someone here will enlighten me, though) Best wishes to you whether you stay or go.

RE: Help with Ford truck

Wholesale simply means what they will ask for it at auction. If you want to PM me with the VIN# I can have my DD check the database as to the price its worth (wholesale and retail) as of today. Or you can call any lending institution and ask for their "black book" price which will be much closer than NADA.
